Why Do All the Successful People Wake Up Early?

Wake up earlier for more success and satisfaction.

Are you the person who likes to sleep in?

Maybe you stay up late watching TV? Or, maybe you just can’t imagine going to sleep until well after midnight? Perhaps you feel sick if you wake up early?

You wouldn’t be alone.

Putting more day in your day

Have you ever considered that if you elongated your day, you might feel happier, get more done and actually be more successful?

I started getting up at 6am every since our baby came. She is up at 7am, or sometimes earlier, so I know I usually get a full hour to myself to write, and to exercise. Since I’ve made this a habit, I’ve been feeling ahead of the game.

I don’t have to worry about how to fit in my exercise during my ever changing scheudule with real estate. I feel like I cheated time a bit and it feels really good. Yes, pretty much daily.

Historically speaking

There a lot of famous people who attribute much of their success to the habit of getting up early (usually around 5 AM) from Ben Franklin to Richard Branson.

It was Franklin who penned the famous saying, “Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.” But it also helps to have something that you love to do, to get you motivated to get up that early in the morning.

For me, I love to write. So I can’t wait to get up and spend time writing, then exercising, during my quiet time in the morning.

Stephen Covey, author of the best-selling self-help book, The Seven Habits of Effective People, wrote that finding uninterrupted blocks of time – where you can really focus on things that are important to you (like writing is for me) – is the key to success. Getting up at 5 AM almost guarantees that your first two hours of the day are going to be uninterrupted time.

You can use that time for getting exercise, meditating, doing your homework, educating yourself, starting a business, or working on a long term project like writing a book. You’ll be amazed at how much easier it is to focus and concentrate first thing in the morning – after getting a good night’s sleep – once you get used to this schedule.

Is this a change worth trying? If you’re ready to see if you can be more successful, try getting up an hour earlier, and find out.

More success
