The Belden Standard & Vision House have partnered and invite you to Seattle’s newest artist showcase event & benefit: Raise the Roof!
The Story: Rainier Beach High School Coach Sees & Acts on Homeless Stress That Affects Students
August Belden, coach and real estate broker, created and coordinated this event as a response to what some Rainier Beach high school students were dealing with…concerns that he did not have firsthand experience with or stress over when he was a youth in school.
Concerns like:
- Where am I sleeping tonight?
- Whose couch can I go and crash on?
- Where is my next meal coming from?
Belden noted his own feelings of distress in seeing his students and athletes having to deal with these concerns at such a young age.
3-Month Sprint to Showcase Event
So, he said, “Let’s go for it!”.
It’s only been since the end-of May or early June, right around the time the school-year ended, that has this 1st time event has been a possibility.
Here’s how it’s coming together so far:
The Party: Artist Showcase at Metropolist in SODO
Art and music are fantastic things to review, focus on and talk about, so that’s what this party will circle around. Plus, it’s great to give artists a little exposure and love.
So we’re featuring up-and-coming Pacific Northwest painters, sketch artists, watercolorists, furniture designers, woodworkers, musicians, poets, storytellers, and loads more. Our goal is to raise the roof, collecting money, donations, and support for our partner beneficiary, Vision House, so the youth of Seattle can find comfort from their community and love under a roof of their own.
Art & music and memorabilia make it extra special
Belden and his team have procured some really special extras for this event’s Silent Auction component. Including pieces such as:
- Sheet music from Bruno Mars, Eric Clapton and the Red Hot Chili Peppers
- Hand-painted animation cells of Spiderman and the Marvel Universe
- A Muhammad Ali regulation size boxing glove (wild!)
There are several more items in similar pop culture awesomeness.
Our featured artists have also donated several works, plus, there’s a two night stay at The Alexis Hotel in Seattle and a one night stay at Portland’s beautiful Cannon Beach.
More deliciousness
Beverages will be provided by Sparkling Ice and Lagunitas Brewing Co. And world class food featured by the Road Chef food truck will be on-hand as well.
Very special thanks to these sponsors.
The party gets started at 4:30 and we’re all planned out and prepped for fun with you and your family, friends, co-workers and crowd.
The Purpose: Vision House
All proceeds will benefit Vision House. They focus on homelessness prevention and temporary housing and support services for children and their families specifically in the Renton and Shoreline areas here in the Seattle area.
Founded in 1990 with one modest neighborhood home, it has grown, debt-free, to five sites housing 36 homeless families; and has helped transform the lives of over 1000 children, women and men.
Join us on Sunday, August 20th as we celebrate these talented individuals around us while rallying to put roofs over the heads of neighbors and students right here in the Seattle area.
More info is available on Raise the Roof Seattle website or on the Facebook Event page.
Or grab your tickets here & now…and remember to bring some cash as well!
